As Group Tax Manager based in Sandton, you will be entrusted with shaping the organisation’s approach to taxation at both strategic and operational levels. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include collaborating with divisional CFOs to design forward-thinking solutions that optimise after-tax results while ensuring full compliance with local and international regulations. You will drive automation initiatives for data quality improvement in tax processes; standardise documentation retention; implement analytics for monitoring KPIs; manage external advisors; deliver impactful training sessions; lead special projects such as M&A due diligence or incentive applications; oversee indirect taxes/customs issues; maintain robust governance frameworks; handle audits/enquiries; ensure adherence to exchange control regulations; plan cash repatriation strategies; optimise foreign tax credits; coordinate large-scale projects from a tax perspective—all while fostering a culture of collaboration among cross-functional teams.
- Provide strategic advice on corporate income tax matters while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of international tax law, transfer pricing, VAT, individual tax, and customs regulations.
- Develop and operationalise comprehensive group tax strategies aligned with business objectives, capital structure considerations, and cash tax optimisation initiatives.
- Evaluate and implement strategic tax structuring for new markets, reorganisations, intellectual property arrangements, financing structures, and both pre- and post-deal M&A activities.
- Lead the group’s Pillar Two readiness by managing scope assessments, data modelling, safe harbour analysis, compliance approaches, and executive committee advisories on effective tax rate volatility.
- Oversee all aspects of local and international tax compliance by coordinating timely filings for corporate income tax returns, VAT/GST/STT, payroll taxes, withholding taxes, incentives/credits with local finance teams or advisors.
- Maintain centralised compliance calendars and dashboards to ensure accurate submissions across all jurisdictions while driving process improvements.
- Own the group’s transfer pricing policy including documentation (Master File/Local Files/CbC reporting), monitoring intercompany pricing models for alignment with legal agreements and ERP execution.
- Manage risk assessments related to transfer pricing by conducting benchmarking exercises and defending positions during audits or disputes.
- Direct all aspects of group tax accounting policies under IFRS/IAS 12 including monthly close processes, deferred/current tax computations, reconciliations, audit support, note disclosures and commentary.
- Serve as primary advisor to senior stakeholders on all matters relating to taxation while delivering training to finance/business teams on obligations and best practices.

- CA(SA) or CTA qualification with MCom (Taxation), HDip Tax or equivalent credentials are essential for this role.
- At least eight years’ experience in a senior-level corporate tax department or reputable advisory environment is required to succeed in this position.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in South African legislation combined with practical understanding of international principles is vital for effective performance.
- Hands-on experience using SARS eFiling systems as well as managing SARS audits is necessary for overseeing compliance activities.
- Proven track record in multinational group environments dealing with cross-border considerations ensures you can navigate complex regulatory landscapes.
- Expertise in preparing current/deferred computations under IAS 12 standards along with strong project management skills is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication abilities are needed for engaging stakeholders at all levels—including executive leadership—and providing clear guidance on complex topics.
- Advanced MS Office skills (especially Excel) are important for data analysis/reporting tasks associated with this role.
- Attention to detail is critical when reviewing submissions or reconciling accounts to guarantee accuracy in compliance/reporting processes.
- Experience in transfer pricing documentation/governance or exposure to Pillar Two implementation would be advantageous.
