Group Accountant

A leading company based in Grand Baie, Mauritius, is seeking a Group Accountant to join their finance team. This exciting opportunity involves managing financial information across a diverse group of businesses while contributing to process improvements and delivering meaningful insights. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and work independently with a high degree of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate financial records for the holding company.
    • Prepare monthly trial balance, management accounts, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
    • Assist with group inter-company transactions and cash management.
    • Ensure compliance with IFRS accounting standards in financial reporting.
    • Review financial information and enhance its usefulness for stakeholders.
  • Analysis & Support:
    • Analyse financial results, identify variances, and provide actionable insights.
    • Support budgeting, forecasting, audit, and statutory reporting processes.
  • Systems & Processes:
    • Work extensively in Excel to manage, review, analyse, and consolidate financial data.
    • Use and maintain Sage accounting software (experience preferred).
    • Drive process improvements and maintain strong internal controls.
    • Handle transactions and reconciliations across multiple currencies.
  • Compliance & Administration:
    • Assist with audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
    • Support tax and statutory compliance requirements.
    • Ensure all accounting records and supporting documentation are properly maintained.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Education:
    • A degree in Accounting (BCom or equivalent) covering core accounting principles and basic IFRS knowledge.
  • Experience:
    • Ideally 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
    • Experience working across multiple entities or business units is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, sumifs).
    • Experience with Sage Accounting Software (preferred).
    • Strong understanding of the flow of financial information within an organisation.
    • Comfortable working with digital tools and the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.
    • Proactive approach with a willingness to take initiative and adapt to change in a dynamic business environment.
