A leading player in the fintech sector is seeking a Group Tax Specialist for a 12-month contract, offering you the chance to make a significant impact across multiple African markets. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a finance team that operates at the forefront of cross-border and cross-platform payment solutions, connecting millions of users and supporting financial inclusion on a global scale.

You will be part of a diverse, multicultural environment where your expertise in tax frameworks and compliance will help shape the future of financial services across Africa and beyond. With flexible working arrangements, unlimited leave, and a supportive culture that values your well-being and professional growth, this role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative setting and is passionate about making a difference.

What you'll do:

  • Coordinate and review the calculation, completion, and submission of all tax returns for group subsidiaries, including income tax, VAT, employee taxes, withholding tax, and other applicable taxes across various jurisdictions.
  • Support the accurate preparation of group company financial statements by ensuring current and deferred tax calculations, reconciliations, and disclosures are correctly reflected.
  • Assist with the implementation and documentation of transfer pricing policies throughout the group to ensure compliance with local regulations.
  • Participate in reviewing proposed business and commercial transactions to provide management with clear advice on potential tax consequences.
  • Advise on the tax implications of business restructurings and reorganisations to optimise group tax positions while mitigating risks.
  • Evaluate queries from tax authorities and collaborate on developing effective strategies to defend group tax positions successfully.
  • Assist in overseeing and managing relationships with external tax consultants to ensure high-quality service delivery on all tax-related matters.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects or provide additional support as required by the Group Tax Manager or CFO, adapting quickly to changing priorities within the finance function.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across different geographies to communicate complex tax issues clearly and collaboratively resolve challenges.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving tax legislation across multiple African markets to proactively identify risks and opportunities for the group.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification is required
  • Chartered Accountant certification is preferred for this position
  • At least six years’ relevant experience in taxation gained within either a Big Four accounting firm or a multinational corporation with extensive exposure to tax compliance, reporting, planning, and audits.
  • Proven experience working across multiple tax jurisdictions is highly desirable for navigating complex regulatory environments.
  • Familiarity with all major types of taxation including corporate tax, international tax, transfer pricing, VAT, withholding taxes, and employment taxes is essential.
  • Experience within the fintech or payments industry would be advantageous given the nature of operations involved.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills combined with strong time management abilities enable you to handle multiple priorities efficiently under limited supervision.
  • Excellent analytical skills paired with sound problem-solving capabilities allow you to interpret complex data sets accurately for informed decision-making.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills facilitate effective engagement with both internal stakeholders at all levels and external consultants based in diverse locations.
  • A track record of implementing new procedures or processes that enhance finance control environments reflects your commitment to continuous improvement.
  • High attention to detail ensures accuracy in all aspects of your work while proficiency in MS Office Suite supports efficient task execution.
