Job Purpose

The job holder will be responsible for providing support in driving origination, evaluation and execution of both financial advisory and capital market mandates.

Qualifications & Experience of the Senior Manager, Advisory & Capital Markets

  • Experience in Advisory and Capital MarketsNB
  • Bachelor and master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or other disciplines are relevant to the position
  • Candidates who hold a post graduate degree in a related field from a reputable university, or those that hold a recognised investment management or accounting qualification (e.g. CFA, ACA, CPA) would be a plus
  • Demonstrable experience working in the front office of a top-tier Investment Bank and/or Capital Markets firm
  • At least 10-12 years of experience in financial advisory or consultancy and demonstrable knowledge and experience in DCM transactions and overall investment banking is mandatory
  • Previous professional experience in Private Equity, Corporate Finance, Capital Raising for Financial Institutions, complemented with relevant experience, and understanding of infrastructure development issues, capital markets and project finance is a plus
  • Previous experience in credit and/or financial institution capital markets is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage (French, Arabic and Portuguese)
  • Understands the different types of credit and underwriting risks and can discuss in detail ways of risk management and mitigation
  • Thorough understanding of market drivers and dynamics
  • Provide technical input in transactions which assist identified African countries to create export-import banks, develop export strategies, develop export processing zones, and create commodity boards
  • Understands transaction cycle and demonstrates detail orientation during execution
  • Ability to thrive on the challenge of competitive pressures and remain focused on client needs
  • Demonstrable experience in investment banking and advisory services in Africa will be an added advantage
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modelling skills required;
  • Ability to follow-up independently and consistently and play the critical role as the project manager on most assignments and the primary capital markets contact

Key job responsibilities for the Senior Manager, Advisory & Capital Markets

  • Assist the Department Global Head in marketing ACMA’s services;
  • Provide close support to the Departmental Global Head in creating and maintaining strong relationships with African governments, financial institutions, and corporates as well as capital markets investors to facilitate development of a strong pipeline of good quality investment banking opportunities in support of the Bank`s mandate;
  • Provide required advisory services to given clients in broad areas that include business valuations, corporate strategy, investment appraisals, evaluating structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions, mergers or acquisitions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales, for purposes of creating financially stable African entities in trade related matters;
  • Develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment banking and corporate finance advisory opportunities within the trade related mandate of the Bank;
  • Lead, coach and motivate the Advisory and Capital Markets services deal team, ensuring understanding of the company vision and values, utilization and revenue targets, ensuring maximum teamwork and co-operation with all areas and divisions of the company and the highest level of service provision;
  • Explore and develop appropriate products to meet client’s investment objectives through professional and effective communication of the currency view;
  • Strategic partner to Relationship Managers and be actively involved in developing and maintaining Banking client
  • Execute transactions which will contribute to development of Africa`s capital markets to ensure that they play a pivotal role in channelling portfolio investment flows into the continent especially in support of companies engaged in trade;
  • Market debt and equity product offerings to corporate, financial institutions and government clients;
  • Execute listing of bond and equity transactions in partnership with internal teams and external partners;
  • Daily responsibilities include both leading bond and advisory execution as well as marketing, e.g. preparing market updates, conducting due diligence, internal/external project management, and client management through marketing and pricing dynamics;
  • Establish a high degree of trust with clients during execution, and grow rapport with clients by demonstrating an understanding of their needs and being responsive;
  • Understand Afreximbank’s approach and policies for managing risks and applicable legal and regulatory rules;
  • Proactively share information, knowledge, and ideas to promote team success;
  • Provide managerial, analytical & modelling support, structuring ideas, financing agreement negotiation support, and oversee all aspects of transaction execution;
  • Manage underwriter, rating agency, issuer legal counsel, accountant, regulators, and trustee engagements;
  • Partner with legal counsel to develop financing documents and transaction prospects;
  • Arrange institutional investor roadshows;
  • Adding value to the work done by team members by enhancing substance to the proposals, reviewing accuracy of factual representations, logical integrity of all calculations in financial models and improving general presentation;
  • Participate in negotiations, use negotiation skills to overcome difficulties and finalize negotiations in capital market and advisory transactions;
  • Manage subordinate staff performance through appropriate performance planning, coaching and performance reviews;
  • Attending Internal & external meetings on behalf of the department when asked to do so. Following up on action tracking log resulting from all committees, meetings, missions for which ACMA actions are required.
  • Implement new methodologies to improve all Advisory and Capital Market services related processes;
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned to the jobholder by Senior Management
  • Liaising with relevant departments in communicating queries and obtaining feedback to clients.
  • Support in implementing new methodologies to improve all capital markets and advisory services related processes
  • Understand and adhere to the Bank's AML, Regulatory and Conduct Compliance policies and procedures, notably.
  • Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities or matters relating to the Bank’s staff or the customers to the Compliance Department.
  • Complete the Annual Compliance Training/Assessment
