A Financial Services insurance and reinsurance firm is seeking experienced Junior Managing Director to join their team, overseeing, and engaging in marketing and business negotiations, based in Johannesburg.

In this role, you will be responsible for placing business into Lloyd’s and other company markets, assisting in business growth, and engaging directly with underwriters. The ideal candidates will be well-established within the South African market and play a pivotal role in expanding operations. You will manage the placement of business into Lloyd’s and international markets, ensuring effective risk placement and client satisfaction. This role involves producing technical documentation, preparing underwriting information, and maintaining relationships with clients and markets.

As a Junior Managing Director, you will lead by example, fostering a collaborative environment while driving business growth in the Johannesburg office. Your efforts will directly contribute to market expansion and client base enhancement. Success will be measured by the growth of business, the quality of client relationships, and the efficiency of risk placement. Key performance indicators include the number of successful placements, client satisfaction scores, and overall business development metrics.

Key qualifications for the Junior Managing Director:

  • Proven experience in a similar role (essential)
  • Authorised Financial Services Provider (Preferred)
  • Continuous Professional Development compliant (Preferred)
  • Working experience as a Senior Broker is preferred
  • Established network within the South African market
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under limited supervision
  • In-depth understanding of the Lloyd’s Market
  • Excellent client interfacing skills

Key duties for a Junior Managing Director include but are not limited to:

  • Strategically place business into Lloyd’s and other company markets in London and internationally, ensuring optimal terms and conditions for clients.
  • Actively contribute to the growth of the business by identifying new opportunities and expanding existing client relationships.
  • Respond promptly to enquiries, preparing detailed and accurate submissions to the market to secure favorable terms for clients.
  • Engage directly with underwriters to negotiate risk placement, utilizing the Placing Platform Limited (PPL) for efficient transactions.
  • Produce essential technical documentation, including Market Reform Contract (MRC) slips, policy wordings, and endorsements, ensuring compliance with market standards.
  • Compile and analyse underwriting information, including exposure overviews, value analysis, and engineering report summaries, to support risk assessment and decision-making.
  • Review new and renewal business submissions meticulously, maintaining and developing relationships with clients and markets through various communication channels, addressing and resolving queries effectively.
  • Monitor and maintain workflow efficiency, coordinating with internal teams for the processing of debit notes and the collection and settlement of premiums.
  • Undertake any additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by senior management to support the overall objectives and smooth operation of the business.
