A leading Short-Term Insurer based in Sandton is seeking a Finance Manager to join their team during an exciting period of strategic growth and expansion. What you'll do:

As Finance Manager – Short-Term Insurance based in Sandton, you will play an integral role in supporting the company’s ambitious expansion plans.

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts with meticulous attention to detail to support effective financial planning.
  • Compile annual financial statements in accordance with regulatory requirements, ensuring accuracy and integrity throughout the reporting process.
  • Generate comprehensive financial reports for Executive Committee and Board meetings that inform key strategic decisions.
  • Manage and submit all regulatory submissions to relevant authorities, maintaining strict compliance with SAM, IFRS 17, and insurance regulations.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing timely information and facilitating smooth audit engagements.
  • Assist with Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) processes as well as capital planning activities in close collaboration with actuarial functions.
  • Monitor Solvency Capital Requirement (SCR) ratios and solvency coverage to ensure ongoing financial health of the insurer.
  • Oversee operational finance including premium processing, claims management, cashflow monitoring, bank account reconciliations, and controls over binder arrangements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls aligned with governance standards (GOI 3), supporting risk management, compliance, and audit functions.
  • Develop and update finance policies and procedures to ensure best practice across all finance operations.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for Finance Manager – Short-Term Insurance brings proven experience from the short-term insurance sector coupled with strong technical accounting skills.

  • CA(SA) qualification is essential for this position
  • 2–3+ years post-articles experience specifically within short-term (non-life) insurance
  • Proficiency in IFRS 17 standards, implementation and execution
  • Direct exposure to motor, property, and liability insurance lines (both personal and commercial)
  • Strong knowledge of SAM (Solvency Assessment & Management), SCR (Solvency Capital Requirement), ORSA (Own Risk & Solvency Assessment), and related regulatory frameworks is vital.
  • Experience with regulatory reporting requirements set by Prudential Authority
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills alongside experience using accounting systems such as Xero or Sage Pastel
  • Experience working with binder/UMA/outsourced models is advantageous
