A leading organisation in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Associate Accountant with expertise in IFRS 16 to join their collaborative Group Finance team. What you'll do:

As a Senior Associate Accountant IFRS 16 based in Cape Town, you will be entrusted with managing the end-to-end process of lease accounting under IFRS 16.

• Manage all aspects of IFRS 16 lease accounting by ensuring accurate recognition, measurement, and disclosure of leases in accordance with relevant standards.
• Maintain detailed lease registers and supporting schedules for right-of-use assets and lease liabilities, ensuring data integrity at all times.
• Assess new leases as well as modifications, re-measurements, and terminations under IFRS 16 requirements to guarantee compliance and transparency.
• Anticipate future rent rates, lease renewals, and related assumptions through robust financial modelling techniques.
• Build and maintain sophisticated financial models relating to leases, property costs, long-term commitments, dilapidations, and end-of-lease costs.
• Support forecasting and budgeting processes by providing well-documented analysis that informs strategic decisions across the finance function.
• Act as a clear communicator with stakeholders from HR, Finance, and Operations by translating technical accounting concepts into accessible language for non-finance colleagues.
• Partner with HR on people-related impacts of leases where relevant to ensure seamless integration between departments.
• Work closely with Operations teams to understand commercial lease terms and operational realities that affect financial reporting.
• Contribute to wider finance projects beyond IFRS 16 over time by identifying opportunities for process improvement and supporting audits or technical queries as required.

What you bring:

Your background as a fully qualified accountant equips you with the technical foundation needed for this Senior Associate Accountant IFRS 16 position. You bring substantial experience applying IFRS 16 standards within complex organisations—particularly those managing significant property or leasing portfolios.

• Fully qualified accountant ( CA(SA) /ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) with demonstrable hands-on experience in IFRS 16 accounting standards.
• Advanced financial modelling abilities that include building models for leases, property costs, long-term commitments, dilapidations, and end-of-lease scenarios.
• Proven track record anticipating rent rates, lease renewals or modifications using sound judgement and robust analytical methods.
• Excellent communication skills enabling you to explain technical concepts clearly to non-finance colleagues across multiple departments.
• Experience working collaboratively with HR on people-related impacts of leasing arrangements is highly desirable.
• Ability to partner effectively with Operations teams to understand commercial realities influencing financial reporting outcomes.
• Exposure to property or lease-heavy portfolios would be advantageous but not essential for success in this role.
• Previous involvement in finance transformation projects or process improvements around lease accounting systems is considered beneficial.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning with a proactive attitude towards broadening responsibilities over time.
