An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Equity Analyst to join a highly respected, independently owned boutique investment manager based in Johannesburg. This is a full-time, permanent, in-office opportunity offering long-term career growth.

As the Equity Analyst, you will play a pivotal part in supporting portfolio managers by conducting rigorous fundamental research, generating actionable investment ideas and contributing directly to the success of client portfolios. With a focus on both institutional and expanding retail client bases, this position provides exposure to a diverse range of listed equities and industry sectors.

Qualifications and experience required for the Equity Analyst:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as Finance or Investments
  • Completion of CFA Level I and/or Level II is mandatory
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in equity research
  • Proven capability for generating original investment ideas
  • Advanced financial modelling skills
  • A solid grasp of financial statements and accounting principles

Key duties of the Equity Analyst:

  • Conduct in-depth equity research by analysing financials, management, industry trends and macroeconomic factors to identify investment opportunities.
  • Build and refine financial models and valuation frameworks to support investment recommendations.
  • Generate actionable investment ideas aligned with the firm’s bottom-up valuation approach.
  • Monitor portfolio holdings and update theses based on earnings, market developments or strategy changes.
  • Analyse company results and industry trends to ensure informed decisions.
  • Engage with management teams, analysts and industry participants for qualitative insights.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to discuss findings and contribute to asset allocation decisions.
  • Prepare clear reports and presentations for internal use and client communication.
  • Support team development by sharing knowledge and improving processes.
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
