Legal Consultant - Recoveries

About: Our esteemed client, an international bank, is seeking an experienced Legal Recoveries Consultant to join their Private Bank's legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and recovering debts, handling legal disputes, and providing expert advice on recoveries and insolvency matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a portfolio of debt recovery cases, ensuring timely and effective recovery of debts owed to the bank.
  2. Conduct legal research, analyze complex financial data, and provide expert advice on banking recoveries and insolvency matters.
  3. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external lawyers.
  4. Develop and implement effective recovery strategies, including negotiation, mediation, and litigation.
  5. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and bank policies.
  6. Provide training and guidance to junior team members.
  7. Maintain accurate records and reports on recovery cases.

Experience, skill and capability:

  1. LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification.
  2. Admission as an attorney or advocate in South Africa (or equivalent).
  3. Minimum 5 years' experience in debt recovery, insolvency, or a related field.
  4. Strong knowledge of South African law, including the National Credit Act and Insolvency Act.
  5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  6. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  7. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant legal software.
