Senior Policy Advisor

Our client, an International NGO, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join their team in Kinshasa, DRC. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide leadership in the development and engagement of innovative community, climate, and biodiversity initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with government agencies and international teams to ensure these initiatives align with national and international conventions and agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of conservation efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Responsible for leading the development of innovative community, climate, and biodiversity initiatives that align with the country's commitments to various international frameworks. The role involves close collaboration with government agencies, national delegated authorities (NDA), as well as regional and global teams. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that these initiatives are fully aligned with DRC government priorities and strategic commitments to national and international conventions.

  • Provide leadership in the development and engagement of innovative community, climate, and biodiversity initiatives.
  • Work closely with government agencies, national delegated authorities (NDA) and regional and global teams.
  • Ensure strong alignment and coordination with other national-level initiatives on biodiversity conservation, protected areas, forest governance.
  • Support stakeholder analysis and development of stakeholder engagement plans for the implementation of Target 3 (30x30).
  • Coordinate the review of legal and policy frameworks to ensure government’s international commitments to biodiversity and climate change are well aligned with national policies.
  • Facilitate consultancies, partnerships, and relationships in support of the Green Climate Fund readiness grant portfolio.

Key Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this Senior Policy Advisor role brings a wealth of experience in large-scale project development within the environmental or climate sector. A Master's degree in environmental or political science, environmental policy or another relevant field will be preferred. Demonstrate your ability to navigate complex high profile or sensitive agreements through your experience in government relations. Your experience working with international and culturally diverse teams will be invaluable in this role, as will your familiarity with international climate policy, conventions, and financing frameworks. Your project management skills will be put to good use as you coordinate the work of professionals both inside and outside the organisation.

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in large-scale project development in the environmental or climate sector.
  • Master’s degree in environmental or political science, environmental policy, or another relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in government relations.
  • Experience working with an international and culturally diverse team.
  • Familiarity with international climate policy, international conventions, climate financing frameworks.
  • Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organisation.
