An international conservation organisation company is looking to hire an experienced Wildlife Research professional to join their team in Garoua, Northern Cameroon as Head of Biomonitoring & Research.

Job responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of Research and Ecological Monitoring.
  • Develop and implement the department strategy in line with the conservation strategy (over 5 years).
  • Project management. Draw up and implement an action plan to strengthen the department's capacity: recruit, train and supervise staff.
  • In collaboration with other departments, develop and supervise activities to raise awareness among local populations of biodiversity conservation issues and human/wildlife conflicts.
  • Participate in BSB Scientific Committee meetings, facilitate and coordinate approved scientific research activities.

Candidate requirements:

  • Minimum PhD in wildlife ecology, with a strong quantitative background
  • Preferably 5-7 years in a similar role, overseeing teams and ensuring adherence to international standards of surveys, monitoring, and analysis
  • Very fit and healthy, as they will be expected to guide and train teams for extended periods in the field
  • Excellent proficiency in both English and French. All reputable conservation and ecological literature is published in English, so the candidate must stay updated with ongoing developments in the field
  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals (not project reports or publications in predatory journals)
  • Experience collaborating with partners, especially international universities. The candidate should have demonstrable evidence of organizing such collaborations and working with national research authorities to obtain research permits
  • Proven experience in data analysis, particularly Distance sampling (both line transects and camera trap distance sampling)
  • Knowledge of GIS, SMART, and analysis software is a plus
