Area Business Development Manager (Honey & Jam)

A leading manufacturer in their field, and has established a strong presence across different food categories including frozen pastry & vegetables, frozen processed meat, premium cheese & natural honey is looking for a Business Development Manager to join their team in Algeria. The Manager is responsible for ensuring the proper and effective development of business in her/his assigned Area (Africa).

She/he is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to achieve finance, sales and marketing objectives in the existing countries, as well as prospecting new countries and markets in her/his assigned area to increase export sales and maximize profits.

Job responsibilities:

Sales/Marketing & Distribution Strategy

  • Create and develop an efficient distribution network of importers/distributors among her/his countries in the Area.
  • Assure the effective implementation and management of all existing distribution contracts within her/his assigned territory and network of distributors.
  • Assure that the existing importers/distributors in the existing markets are developed in line with the strategy outlines
  • Develop positive relation with each of them based on clear guidelines and procedures, which are reflected in our shared distribution agreements.
  • Build importers/distributors’ capabilities to develop Sunbulah’s categories
  • Search and select new importers/distributors for existing markets whenever and wherever needed, and for new markets whenever and wherever suitable

Policies, Systems, Processes, Procedures, Standards and Reports

  • Follow the Business Development function policies, systems, processes and procedures to ensure consistent application and ease of business support operations.

Budget and Financials

  • Responsible for her/his yearly budget and P&L within her/his Area,
  • In coordination with her/his line manager, establishes and follow up sales, marketing and financial objectives to achieve assigned financial results,
  • Controls the payment deadlines and collection of due and overdue amounts in coordination with line manager and Finance and legal departments,
  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of the Sales budget, monitor financial expenditure versus the budget and identify gaps and areas of improvement, to ensure taking correcting cost control actions and capitalizing on potential performance improvement opportunities.

Business Development

  • Provide information to line manager on possible joint ventures, alliances, partnerships, and other business opportunities to support expansion plans and enhance the clients portfolio.
  • Recommend, Set-up and Monitor local trade marketing activities to expand the clients presence and revenue in the different markets.
  • Follow up, gather and report information and intelligence on competition and their activities, to ensure adequate reaction to competition threats by robust branding, pricing and promotion plans.

Market analysis and business intelligence

  • Gather information and intelligence on new and existing markets, competitors and key customers to ensure the development and execution of suitable business development plans.
  • Support the marketing team in its activities, in particular in conducting market research and analysis, to stay abreast of overall market trends and requirements and enable the identification of potential partners, clients and business opportunities.

Key aspects of the role will be to:

  • Drive a profitable portfolio growth of 4 brands in up to 10 food categories in existing and new markets in Africa,
  • Achieve targets by following the strategy and procedures aligned with her/his line manager, HQ and the respective Business Units,
  • Maintain and selectively grow our presence in existing and new markets in Africa,
  • Select new markets that will contribute to the further presence of the clients Portfolio in the assigned Area.

Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in international business development, including a significant experience of progressively increasing managerial/ leadership responsibilities in Africa.
  • Strong experience in Africa in handling importers/distributors and leading commercial teams
  • 3-5 years of annual negotiations experience with Retailers and Category Management,
  • Around 5 years of Commercial and Marketing experience in FMCG industry – ideally Food.
