A leading international medical products and services organization having its global headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria and coverage across 17 countries in West Africa is looking for a Director, Life Science to join their team in Nigeria. (Fully bilingual candidate) This is senior business leadership role responsible for P&L of the clients life science business unit.

This is senior business leadership role responsible for P&L of the clients life science business unit. He/ She shall be responsible for negotiating partnerships with leading international companies in NGS, Bioinformatics, Automation to be able to play in areas of genetics, oncology, infectious diseases, reproductive health, population genomics, agro genomics, pathogen genomics etc.

The Director, Life Sciences shall be responsible for developing and executing business opportunities with research institutes, clinical laboratories, and programs funded by large global donors and national governments.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for achieving short term and long-term revenue and profitability targets as per agreed and signed business plans.
  2. Responsible for developing growth strategy for business unit and alignment with group executive management team for resources and deliverables.
  3. Build fit for purpose organization adaptable to changing focus countries, institutions, skill set, and native written/ spoken language.
  4. Responsible for forging very close relationships with all stakeholders so that the client is their first choice for offering any solution in life science area.
  5. Represent the client in regional forums to establish credentials in focus areas.
  6. Work closely with local governments, international funds, and international surveillance programs to seek partnership opportunities by offering a range of solutions offered by the client.
  7. Almost real time intel and insights on competition activities and customer requirement
  8. Work closely with Illumina and all other partners to ensure competitive and comprehensive solutions to our customers.
  9. Establish performance benchmarks re. equipment usage, samples tested, training of lab scientists, equipment under maintenance contract, equipment installation and BI & SR case resolution time etc.
  10. Regularly measure customer satisfaction and net promoter score
  11. Conduct events to highlight the clients and Partner Products, Capabilities and offered Solutions to existing and prospective customers. Recognize and reward pioneer and trailblazer customers.

Required qualifications and skill set.

  1. Must be bilingual – fluent in French and English
  2. Established network of contacts within medical research institutions across West and Central Africa, International Donor Funds, and large clinical laboratories.
  3. Must have thorough understanding of large medical research institutions in the region, their organization set up, operating model, sourcing of funding and required KPIs, bidding to be part of international programs.
  4. Experience of setting up a research program and sourcing funding for it.
  5. Experience of working on Illumina NGS platforms and array technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A PhD/ master’s degree in molecular science or genomics from a reputed regional/ international university
  2. Ten years of full-time experience working with a leading medical research institute as a researcher/ administrator or with an international fund responsible for managing a health program in Africa.
