Senior Internal Auditor

A leading multinational corporation in the mining and commodities sector is seeking an experienced Senior Internal Auditor to join their dynamic and diverse team on an 8-month fixed-term contract. Based in northern Johannesburg, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a global internal audit team that drives value, strengthens controls, and supports sustainable business improvements.

About the Role:

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in delivering assurance and advisory services related to Industrial Operations, Sustainability, HSEC, and Human Rights. You’ll work across global operations, identifying and evaluating risks, leading audit engagements, and influencing change that enhances operational efficiency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct global assurance and consulting engagements focused on Industrial Operations, Sustainability, HSEC, and Human Rights.
  • Develop a deep understanding of strategic and operational activities within Industrial Operations.
  • Identify and assess risks, controls, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and execute end-to-end audit engagements, including planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit work programmes aligned with internal and industry standards.
  • Detect control gaps, determine root causes, and collaborate with business stakeholders to develop effective mitigation plans.
  • Promote best practices and contribute to continuous improvement of audit methodologies.

Requirements:

  • A university degree in Internal Audit, Finance, Engineering, or HSEC/ESG (or equivalent).
  • Professional certification such as CIA, CA, CPA, or CISA (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in internal or external audit, ideally in an international context.
  • Exposure to the mining or extractives sector with a strong understanding of industry-specific risks.
  • Willingness to collaborate with global teams across time zones.
