Senior Analyst, Finance (Management Accounts & Reports)

Our client, Afreximbank (Africa Export-Import Bank), is seeking a Senior Analyst in Finance for their Management Accounts & Reports department.

Reporting to Head, Financial Control, this role will assist in carrying out various management accounting maintenance functions required for the preparation of various management accounting reports and support in producing statutory financial statements. The role is supposed to help the Bank to achieve its mission “stimulating a consistent expansion of and diversification of African trade so as to rapidly increase Africa’s share of global trade, while operating as a first class, profit oriented, socially responsible financial institution and a centre of excellence in African trade matters” by the production of requisite financial analyses and reports on key financial data within the organisation to ensure that Management and the Board of Directors receive timely, accurate and relevant business performance and cost control information.

Main Responsibilities:

Budgeting & Management Accounting Services

  • Assist in preparation of monthly management accounts, periodic financial statements, accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives, including “Budget vs. Actual” variance reports. Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances.
  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets and the midyear budget review for approval by Senior Management and the Board of Directors within given time frame.
  • Assist in preparation of the departmental budget.
  • Assist in monitoring financial performance and implementation of the Bank’s annual budgets and provide recommendations to Senior Management and relevant committees.
  • Assist in preparation of financial performance related presentations to investors and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in handling automation of the budget process in the Bank and keep on improving the process.
  • Assist in providing financial information to internal and external stakeholders.

Strategic Business Plan, Costing and Reporting

  • Assist in preparation of the monthly profitability report for sector, department and customer and reconciling it with Originations departments.
  • Assist in preparation of the rolling forecasts with different scenarios and the five years financial statements of the Bank and assist in preparation of special reports.
  • Supporting Strategy department in all requirements related to the Bank’s Business plan and Score cards.
  • Assist in modelling and analysis, development of long-term financial planning model, including scenario planning, and meaningful dashboards with variance analyses for Senior Management.
  • Assist in the periodic discussion with the departments to understand their plans and activities to start the process of the implementation of the activity-based budgeting.
  • Assist in preparation of reports for cost control and assist in developing the techniques required to be implemented.
  • Assist in monitoring cost controls to ensure budgets are not exceeded and revenue targets are met.
  • Perform any other work required for budgeting, financial planning and control.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by senior management.

Compliance Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to the Bank’sAML, Regulatory, and Conduct Compliance policies and procedures, notably:
    • Staff Handbook (has code of conduct provisions)
    • Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism and Counter Proliferation Financing
    • Conflicts of Interest and Policies on Staff Involvement in External Engagements/Activities
    • Anti-Bribery & Corruption
    • Insider Trading Guidelines
  • Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities or matters relating to the Bank’s staff or the customers to the Compliance Department.
  • Complete the Annual Compliance Training/Assessment.
  • Screen and identify any adverse reports or compliance issues that may impact the Bank’s relationships with customers and business counterparties.
  • Refer any compliance related concerns about any vendor or business relationship to the Director of Compliance.
  • Facilitate the onboarding and update of KYC information on vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a relevant post graduate degree.
  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, CMA, CPA, ACCA) is required and may be considered in lieu of a post graduate degree.

Years & Nature of Experience

  • Ability to demonstrate proof of passion and commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of African countries and the ability to support the achievement of Afreximbank’s mandate.
  • Sound relevant experience of at least 3 years within one of the Big Four Accounting firms or in similar role elsewhere and demonstrable knowledge of IFRS and related accounting rules is a must. Exposure to the Banking or financial services industry whilst with the accounting firm is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working with ERP systems (preferably SAP and Finacle) is a must. Experience in project implementation of ERP systems will be an added advantage.
