As an Internal Auditor in this influential role, you will be entrusted with establishing a structured internal audit framework that underpins every aspect of the organisation’s operations. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with executive leadership to identify critical risks, developing tools such as risk matrices and registers that provide transparency across all business units. You will design tailored audit programmes that address both routine processes and emerging threats while delivering insightful reports that inform strategic decision-making at the highest levels. - Support the Finance Director in implementing a comprehensive risk-based approach at an executive level that encompasses all areas of the business including strategic, commercial, operational, IT, and people management risks.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date risk matrix by scoring and prioritising top business risks across all functions and product categories to ensure effective mitigation strategies are in place.
- Build and manage a detailed group risk register that captures risk identification, ownership, mitigating controls, and residual risk ratings for ongoing monitoring.
- Design and deliver executive-level KPI scorecard reporting that tracks key performance indicators and risk metrics for leadership teams and the Board.
- Develop, plan, and execute an annual risk-based internal audit programme covering branches, functions, and business processes to ensure thorough oversight.
- Take responsibility for designing audit testing procedures and performing required testing activities independently or with support from finance staff on larger projects.
- Conduct periodic effectiveness assessments of the internal control environment as well as the audit function itself, recommending improvements to close identified gaps.
- Collaborate closely with the Finance team and Risk Officer as a proactive safeguard against fraud, theft, and non-compliance throughout the organisation.
- Engage confidently with senior stakeholders and branch operations to communicate findings clearly and drive accountability for remediation actions.
- Undertake IT systems risk reviews including access controls, business process reviews, and IT operational risks to strengthen overall organisational resilience.

- Minimum 10 years’ experience in internal or external audit roles within complex organisations where you have demonstrated sound judgement in high-stakes environments.
- Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree with Honours is essential; additional qualifications such as CIA or CA(SA) are highly advantageous for this position.
- Proven exposure to retail, wholesale or distribution sectors is preferred as it enables you to understand industry-specific risks and operational nuances.
- Deep understanding of risk frameworks combined with practical knowledge of internal control principles ensures you can design effective assurance mechanisms.
- Demonstrated ability to engage independently with senior stakeholders while maintaining professionalism during challenging conversations about compliance or integrity issues.
