Business Development Manager (Cameroon)

My client is a fast-growing financial technology company redefining access to global financial markets through innovative digital solutions. Their mission is to deliver accessible, efficient, and trusted financial services in rapidly evolving markets. They are seeking a Business Development Manager to lead the expansion of operations in Cameroon and support growth across the CEMAC region.

Key Responsibilities

Local Market Setup & Operations

  • Support the incorporation and establishment of the local entity in Cameroon
  • Open and manage local bank accounts and facilitate registration with regulatory bodies (e.g. COBAC, BEAC)
  • Coordinate onboarding with FX brokers, blockchain exchanges, and payment service providers

Business Development & Growth

  • Drive growth of FX trading and blockchain payment solutions
  • Identify and onboard key clients, including HNWIs, merchant networks, fintech users, diaspora channels, and institutional partners
  • Position the business as a leading provider of cross-border payments and digital asset solutions in Cameroon and the wider CEMAC region

Partnerships & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the local representative, building strong relationships with banks, brokers, mobile money operators (e.g. MTN MoMo, Orange Money), and ecosystem players
  • Engage with regulatory bodies and government stakeholders where necessary
  • Market Intelligence & Compliance
  • Monitor developments in FX regulation, blockchain adoption, payment infrastructure, and BEAC monetary policy
  • Provide insights on market risks, opportunities, and emerging trends

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with global teams (operations, compliance, legal, finance) to ensure alignment with company strategy and regulatory requirements
  • Corporate Administration
  • Act as nominee director for the local entity
  • Oversee compliance filings, renewals, and local reporting obligations

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in banking, FX, blockchain, or fintech
  • Strong understanding of Cameroon’s financial ecosystem and regulatory environment (COBAC/BEAC)
  • Proven track record in business development, launching new markets, or growing financial services products
  • Excellent commercial acumen and relationship-building skills
  • Fluency in English and French (essential)
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Self-starter comfortable working in a remote, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, particularly in compliance and documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing network with local banks, brokers, or fintech companies
  • Experience with mobile money and digital payment platforms
  • Knowledge of CEMAC regional frameworks and cross-border trade flows
  • Experience launching FX or blockchain products in Africa
