A leading Short-Term Insurer based in Sandton is seeking a Finance Manager to join their team during an exciting period of strategic growth and expansion.

This key role places you at the center of a regulated environment, driving the company’s expansion into new insurance lines while ensuring strong financial management, compliance, and solvency monitoring alongside leadership and actuaries.

Qualifications and experience required for the Finance Manager:

  • Fully qualified CA(SA).
  • 2 - 3 years’ post qualified experience within a short-term (non-life) insurance environment.
  • Direct exposure to motor, property, and liability insurance lines (both personal and commercial).
  • Strong knowledge of SAM, SCR, ORSA and related regulatory frameworks
  • Experience with regulatory reporting.
  • Proficiency in IFRS 17.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills alongside experience using accounting systems such as Xero or Sage Pastel.
  • Experience working with binder/UMA/outsourced models.
  • Familiarity with broker due diligence processes.

Key duties of the Finance Manager:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts to support financial planning with precision.
  • Compile accurate annual financial statements in line with regulatory standards.
  • Create detailed financial reports for Executive Committee and Board meetings to guide strategic decisions.
  • Handle regulatory submissions, ensuring compliance with SAM, IFRS 17, and insurance regulations.
  • Facilitate internal and external audits by providing timely information and support.
  • Assist with ORSA processes and capital planning in collaboration with actuarial teams.
  • Monitor SCR ratios and solvency coverage to maintain insurer's financial health.
  • Manage operational finance tasks including premium processing, claims, cashflow monitoring, reconciliations, and binder controls.
  • Ensure strong internal controls aligned with governance standards (GOI 3) for risk management and compliance.
  • Develop and update finance policies to promote best practices across operations.

Key personal skills:

  • Ability to operate effectively in a hands-on environment within a scaling insurer shows adaptability during periods of organisational change.
