Portfolio Monitoring and Valuations Associate
A leading global investment firm is seeking a Portfolio Monitoring Associate to join their Cape Town office, offering you the opportunity to become an integral part of a highly respected Team.
What you'll do:
As a Portfolio Monitoring Associate, you will immerse yourself in the heart of portfolio monitoring activities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be to:
- Manage quarterly and monthly valuation exercises by preparing drafts, templates, and reviewing proposed assumptions in close collaboration with investment teams.
- Support the transition of valuation processes to new systems and operating models by developing automation solutions and becoming the central technical expert within the valuations function.
- Prepare detailed schedules and analysis covering valuations, financial performance, and exit forecasting to support Portfolio Committee meetings with senior executives.
- Attend Portfolio Committee meetings to minute actions accurately and provide comprehensive support to committee members as required.
- Work closely with external advisors including third-party valuers, analytics software providers, and auditors to ensure robust valuation processes.
- Prepare schedules and analysis for quarterly updates to investors as well as ad hoc reporting for other internal teams.
- Develop commercial and efficient processes from first principles that enhance operational effectiveness across the portfolio monitoring function.
- Provide guidance and training to the Portfolio Analyst within the team, supporting their development through mentorship and delegation of responsibilities.
- Build productive working relationships with private wealth teams, fund administration, investor relations teams, and external systems developers.
- Actively collaborate with colleagues across departments to promote camaraderie, respect, and effective communication throughout all projects.
What you bring:
- A postgraduate qualification in finance or a related field is essential.
- Strong experience in business valuation and advanced Excel skills, including big data management
- Ability to analyse complex data and deliver clear, actionable insights
- Experience with system projects or new business processes highlights adaptability and technical proficiency
- Excellent English communication skills support effective relationship-building internally and externally
- Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook ensures efficient documentation and presentations
- Quick learning of new systems demonstrates flexibility with evolving technologies
- Strong interpersonal skills enable effective collaboration across all levels, including senior management
- Exceptional organisational skills ensure the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines consistently
- Leadership potential is shown through managing small teams, setting expectations, reviewing progress, and providing guidance
