About the Opportunity
Assistant Investment Manager: Strategic Initiatives & AfCFTA Adjustment Fund
As an Assistant Investment Manager, you will assist the investment team across each stage of the investment process, for each of FEDA’s funds strategies but with a focus on its strategic initiatives fund strategy ($250 million fund strategy dedicated to high impact greenfield investments in critical sectors). You will be responsible for assessing potential
investments, conducting financial analysis, supporting deal structuring and negotiation, performing due diligence, and monitoring portfolio performance etc. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the drafting of concept papers for innovative projects.
Additionally, you will support the operationalization, capital deployment, fundraising, and ongoing monitoring and governance of the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund, ensuring its effective implementation and impact. The ideal candidate possesses very strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of the private equity sector and greenfield investments in Africa, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Execution & Portfolio Management
- Support the investment team throughout the investment life cycle, including deal origination, investment evaluation, portfolio management, fundraising activities, and exit strategies.
- Assess the risks, opportunities, and investment merits of prospective investments and strategic initiatives.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, financial modelling, valuation, and portfolio monitoring activities.
- Assist with transaction structuring, including preparation of term sheets, investment memoranda, and participation in negotiations.
- Coordinate deal execution meetings and follow up on key actions and decisions.
Due Diligence & Research
- Perform due diligence on target companies, including management meetings, industry research, competitive analysis, and financial performance assessments.
- Coordinate and support external due diligence advisors and actively review their deliverables.
- Present due diligence findings and investment recommendations to management and investment committees.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and economic factors relevant to FEDA's investment strategies.
Portfolio Monitoring & Value Creation
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of value-creation initiatives, including ESG action plans.
- Monitor portfolio company performance, identify key performance indicators, and recommend improvement opportunities.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly investment reports for Executive Management, the Board, investors, and other stakeholders.
Fundraising & Strategic Initiatives
- Support fundraising activities through the preparation of investor materials and participation in investor engagements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop concept papers and strategic investment initiatives.
- Support the activities of the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund through financial analysis, due diligence, transaction structuring, portfolio monitoring, fundraising support, and governance activities.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Engineering, Sciences, or a related field with a strong academic record.
- An MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Banking, or a related discipline
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years' professional experience, with at least 3 years in investment banking, private equity, or a similar financial environment.
- Strong understanding of investment principles, financial analysis techniques, and valuation methodologies.
- Proven experience in financial modelling and advanced Excel.
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks governing private equity investments.
- Experience evaluating and managing investment opportunities across Africa will be advantageous.
