Supply Chain Manager
Our client, a multinational commodity trading company specialised in import/export of agricultural commodities is currently expanding operations into Ghana and is recruiting a Supply Chain Manager. The Supply Chain Manager will oversee the entire operational chain: from vessel discharge at the Port of Tema through to delivery to industrial clients, including warehouse management and road transport. This role is central to the performance of trading operations from day one.
Role responsibilities:
Vessel Reception & Discharge
- Plan and supervise discharge operations for vessels carrying soya, wheat and wheat bran in bulk or bagged form at the Port of Tema
- Coordinate with port authorities (GPHA), shipping agents, consignees and freight forwarders to ensure smooth port calls
- Check cargo compliance on arrival: quantities, quality, sanitary condition, customs and phytosanitary documentation (Ghana Standards Authority, PPRSD)
- Manage discharge timelines to avoid demurrage and minimise vessel idle costs
- Organise weighing, sampling and quality analysis (moisture, protein, impurities) with accredited laboratories
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Manage storage operations for agricultural commodities (silos, warehouses, dry stores) in line with preservation standards
- Implement and monitor stock management procedures: inflows/outflows, FIFO rotation, regular stock counts, loss and shortage management
- Optimise storage capacity utilisation and anticipate needs based on cargo schedules
- Ensure full traceability of commodity batches (soya, wheat, wheat bran) from receipt to client delivery
- Enforce safety, food hygiene and Ghanaian regulatory compliance standards in warehouses
Transport & Distribution
- Organise and optimise road transport from the Port of Tema and warehouses to clients (flour millers, animal feed manufacturers, distributors) in Ghana and the sub-region
- Manage and evaluate local transport and handling service providers (hauliers, truckers, stevedores)
- Coordinate deliveries to meet contractual commitments on timelines and quantities
- Optimise transport costs by negotiating rates and rationalising routes
Operational Coordination & Reporting
- Work closely with Finance and Commercial teams on flow planning and invoicing
- Track and analyse logistics KPIs: cost per tonne, stock rotation time, loss rate, demurrage, client service level
- Manage and develop Ghanaian field teams: team leaders, storekeepers, forklift operators, port equipment drivers
- Produce regular operational reports for Management and headquarters on stock status, flows and logistics costs
Candidate requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's / Master's in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport or Industrial Engineering
- Experience: Minimum 5 to 8 years in bulk agricultural commodity logistics, with mandatory experience in a Ghanaian port environment (Port of Tema preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian port operations (GPHA), GRA customs procedures, phytosanitary regulations (PPRSD) and Incoterms
- Proficiency in warehouse/inventory management tools and Excel
- Strong management skills: ability to lead large field teams in demanding operational conditions - Rigorous, reactive, well-organised with natural authority in the field
- Fluent English required; knowledge of local languages (Twi, Ga) an asset
