Through our partnership with the Global Angels Foundation, a small international development charity, we’re helping to transform the lives of people living in the Tsavo region of southern Kenya by providing the resources they need to become sustainable.
Our partnership provides financial investment in the community and we also send eight staff volunteers each year to work with local residents to help build critical infrastructure for the community and get involved in projects that are changing lives for the better.
James Flavin, lead recruitment partner for our recruitment process outsourcing business, shares his volunteering story.
“Absolutely amazing! This experience will be a standout moment for the rest of my life. Not only did I have the opportunity to get involved with a fantastic charity and contribute to the lives of others, but as a bonus I got to see elephants, giraffes, zebra, warthog, lions and more on a daily basis – it was another aspect I will not forget."
"Honestly, it blew my expectations out of the water. I had no idea that Robert Walters had already contributed so much to Global Angels and continues to do so. Furthermore, the families and children we met were so warm, kind and happy despite having so little, it really puts things into perspective."
"There are so many standout moments, it’s difficult to focus on just one or two. For me, having the opportunity to hand out donations to the local football team was particularly powerful. There can be a lot of negative distractions for young men in the community and football is used as a way to get away from that. By donating footballs and boots and trainers, we were able to have an impact on something these young men truly love.
It was very striking that we came with lots of gifts and donations, but they cared so much more about the interaction with us, it was a great lesson to take away. People and our interactions with others are more important than possessions."
"I learned that I have a responsibility in this world to do good. I wouldn’t say I was unkind before, but I now have a real sense of purpose to help others. I knew I would enjoy this trip, but I didn’t realise how much of an impact it would have on me mentally. I’ve come back with a need to spread the message of Global Angels to as many people as I can and show what great work is being done for this community and others across the globe.”
